Will Robots Ever Replace People in Day-to-Day Life?
This week’s question concerns robots. Scientists are saying that humanoid robots like those seen in the new movie “Surrogates” are not that far from reality. In the movie, realistic robots take the place of people in day-to-day life and no one worries about crime or pain, as their robots can self-heal. In the real world, armies use remote-controlled robots to attack enemies and destroy land mines. Anybots - a Mountain View, CA company founded in 2001 - currently offers a 35-pound, 5-foot-tall robot that allows the user to be two places at once and remotely travel, see, hear, and talk.
What do you think? Will technology advance to the level of robots replacing people in day-to-day life?

Robots are the way of the future, however I do not see them replacing humans in day to day life. They may accompany us during our daily routine but not replace us. Getting a robot to do certain human tasks is still challenging enough, being able to coordinate, think on the fly and do multiple tasks in one robot without endangering other humans is not that near term yet.

Too vague a question, with no timeline as part of the question. Within 50 years? Most likely not, as it will take another generation or two for the tech to mature, and for humanity to reach the point of not needing to do anything physical any longer, and ‘live’ confined to a chair, and ‘living’ virtually.

Issiac Asimov was very insightful in how Robots will probably be used. They won’t replace humans, but they will be utilized to assist humans. Doing the daily, mundane tasks we all dislike, allowing humans to focus on more inovative pursuits.
Robots will never be used as a “substitute” or surragate for personal human interaction because they will never acquire the level of trust required. It would be similar to meeting someone online in a chat room: to easy to be scammed.

Nah. If they eever do get any smarts, let’s first use them to replace politicians. All I want is one to clean the house and sing the baby mini-DVR to sleep with Moog synthesizer songs. NO NO NO !!!!! KEEP THOSE CYLONS AWAY FROM ME !!!!!!!!!

Transwording from “Behind every great man…,” “Behind every great robot is a great human.” Robots will continue to displace humans as humans can figure out how to program and adapt robots to more and more productive tasks. Historically as every major advance has taken place, i.e., as humans developed basic tools, the industrial revolution, electrical appliances, computers, etc., as human tasks were replaced, humans become more productive. This, of course, presupposes that human education simultaneously advances human skill levels to take advantage of the labor savings robots can provide. Maintaining appropriately advancing human educational levels is one of our major challenges.

The question of replacing humans in day to day life with robotics is inevitable, especially in the work place.
This was not the question of robots replacing human kind.
Robotics will be the end of civilization as we know it; much like the invention of automobiles, electricity and computers changed our “past” civilization.
So, adapt and prosper or be on the losing side of the robot divide.

Wrong question. Right question: to what extent will we allow the replacement of people by robots? They have already replaced people in manufacturing, communications, and transportation. they are replacing people in advertising and entertainment, service industries, and medicine. They will supplant human warfighters, explorers, and any activity deemed too risky for real flesh-and-blood to undertake. They will totally replace people engaged in low-level, linear “thinking” tasks. Will they replace people at high-level, non-linear thinking tasks, too? Stay tuned.

Similar to the article on electric cars, a lot will depend on the power supply, ie.—the battery. If the robot is to be dispached to the field or into the “hot” room in a steel mill, how long will the battery remain charged to finish a task or intended function.
We all harbor the same “Hal” fear that if a robot can be given a decision making capability and is able to “learn”, when would they plot to eliminate the controlling influence–man?? On that same happy note, would we be able to eventually have a meaningful conversation/relationship with our robot?

“Ever” is a very long time yet in the near future robots will gain autonomy and a form of machine awareness that will allow them to function as independent entities in the culture. Like horses were once in our culture, robots will provide useful service and have the ability to do many tasks now done by human beings. They will most likely have access to collective memory and may share experiential specialization for rapid adaption to difficult tasks. Robots will eventually have feelings, language skills and advanced knowledge but the things that make humans, human have taken millions of years to evolve and although robots will advance much faster they will always be robots and therefore different than humans.

One of the best sci-fi stories I ever read was ‘Bolo’, about robot tanks. It was really cool, because the tanks had AI to the point of being aware of ‘esprit de corps’.
I firmly believe in using drones for warfare. We should not be sending anyone out to fight crazy people who hide behind civilians and purposefully kill civilians.
This is not a forum for anti-war rhetoric, I know. I would rather spend tax money on robots than send family men to die.
PS,The robots are to be American made.

“Robots” do so much of our daily routines already that we take it for granted. It is only when it is actually pointed out that we take notice.
Computers in place of us doing computations.
Kitchen timers turn on and off our appliances.
Remote controls for everything from TV’s to Garage doors.
Alarms to wake us up.
NAV systems in our cars, boats, airplanes.
Their not called “Robots” in these instances, but a horse of a different color is still a horse.

Three variables change the answers to the question: how “life-like” are they, how expensive are they, and how rugged are they?
You wouldn’t use a non-human-looking robot for most public relations jobs, such as bank teller, although “box boy” at a grocery store might be acceptable.
Rugged and inexpensive would be good choices for firefighting, mining, bomb disposal. For psychological reasons, I wouldn’t recommend tele-operated robots in law enforcement, particularly in those jurisdictions where the police have a reputation as being “badge-heavy”.
But clearly very life-like robots that were inexpensive and rugged would have far greater penetration into day to day situations than robots where one of those factors was lacking. How you mix the variables will determine when and where robots will get used.

Most probably. Consider a robotic bed partner; this would solve our pressing population problems (assuming them robot is non-reproducing).

Sure! As a matter of fact as the general population continues to get lazier, people could be replaced by non-functioning robots or even lumps of coal.

Get real, no way! Many people have tried to predict the future as some technology take over, but it has never materialized. Machines will never replace humans, only make certain work more efficient. Nothing can replace the experience of being somewhere and doing something. The “virtual life” has never materialized as predicted many years ago and never will.

Dull, dirty, dangerous - the three roles identied as ideal for UAVs can be extrapolated to be the lot of every robot. Will robots ever replace football players, recording or visual artists or even your barber? Humans recognise and laud the best of human endeavour, and appeal to human society to show humanity. Despite the human capacity for ‘inhumanity’ and wanton greed at the expense of fellow creatures and their own environment evolution has endowed the human species with qualities and abilities beyond mere automatons. Whether humans have the foresight and insight necessary to imbue robots with those human qualities that have allowed them to prosper is a moot point. The best manner to create an entity that has the potential to be as creative, smart and versatile as a human is to breed another one.

Why not. I had a vision that robots would be purchased and maintained by private citizens then rented out to manufacturers to replace human workers. The benefit to the manufacturer was no lost time as robots didn’t take vacations, are sick (except when repairs required), worked 24-7-365 with no holidays. These were the benefits to renting robots vs. hiring human employee’s.
There are robots today that are used in manufacturing, unfortunately the company purchased these robots. So, my problem to my vision was “Why would a company rent a robot that they could purchase and keep the humans as the Maytag repairman when the owned robots needed repair.”
Anyway you look at it, the future will change as far as manufacturing is concerned as mechanization improves to the point where the human will be displaced. It is happening today. Humans will need to learn and become the owners of the manufacturing companies instead of being “Robot Lords” of rental robots.

Hi there,
Thought I’d share something interesting I got hold of recently. If you’re sick and tired of running around totally broke while other players get barns and greenhouses and the most expensive villa, this information is for you.
You’ve probably always wondered why you can’t seem to make as much money or level up as fast as the other players in the game.

Depending on what your destination is and how long you plan on making your trip for, the airfare may be the priciest expense. Because of this, finding a great deal on the airfare becomes extremely important. The more money you are able to save on the plane tickets, the more money you will be able to use toward your actual vacation.
When it comes to purchasing your airline tickets, the sooner the better. This goes for basically anywhere you plan on traveling. When you purchase a ticket sooner, lets say several months before the trip, there will be less of a demand, which will drive the price of the ticket down. However, on the flip side, as the day of the desired flight approaches, the flight’s seats will begin to fill up. As fewer and few seats become available, the higher the demand will be, which will drive the price up. Booking the flight in as far advance as you can may save you hundreds of dollars in the long run.
Flying during the middle of the week is generally the cheapest time to fly. Fewer people travel during mid week than on Friday through Sunday. If at all possible, fly out on a Tuesday or Wednesday. You may actually find prices significantly less expensive on the Wednesday than the Sunday of the same week.
Looking for airfare online will probably be your best be at securing the cheapest possible flight price. There are multiple booking agencies which specialize in finding the cheapest airfare. However, to save time, go to Bing.com, which offers a comprehensive flight search option. Bing will search other travel sites (Expedia, Priceline, Hotwire, etc.) and display the cheapest flight form each site. From here you will be able to decide which website offers the best deal.
Students can often find discounted airfare by visiting STA.com. This is the Student Travel Association, and it can sometimes find less expensive airfare for the traveling student. This isn’t always the case, but it doesn’t hurt to look.

When I was hurt in that automotive accident my life would be changed forever. Unfortunately that driver had no car insurance and I was going to be hurting for ever.
This was not time for me to start and guess what to do. I had to find a good accident lawyer to help me get what I needed. After all, my family was counting on me.
How bad was it? I has bedridden for 5 months, I had to have constant care and my clinic bills went through the roof!
Gratefully, I found a good referral site to help me.

Dental caries and periodontal condition is usually prevented by a effective dentist hygiene program. A great dental hygiene system really should consist of the following:
1. Proper normal tooth brushing strategies.
2. Suitable eating habits and very good diet.
3. The use of fluoride h2o and other fluoride-containing substances like toothpastes and mouthwashes.
4. Typical visits towards the dentist which includes a thorough dentist check-up and prophylaxis.
All these can provide optimum oral health, no cost from dental caries and periodontal condition.
A well balanced diet along with the limited consumption of foods that contribute to dentist decay are the first actions to some effective dental hygiene package. Our mouth is naturally inhabited by acid forming bacteria. These bacteria feed on starches and sugars. Acid is formed when bacteria act on starch or sugar. The acid formed causes enamel degradation, which may be the starting point of any tooth caries. For this reason, it can be significant to minimize and if achievable, prevent meals that are rich in sugar and starch. Examples of these foods are richly filled pastries, doughnuts and peanut butter. These meals are particularly damaging since these tend to stick inside the tooth surfaces. Sweetened canned fruits with heavy syrup, citrus-flavored candies and sweetened fruit juices are also high in sugar content. Chewing gums, breath sweeteners and carbonated beverages are harmful not due to the fact they contain big amounts of sugar but since on the frequency with which they are ingested. Artificially sweetened foods, drinks and chewing gum are greater choices.
Normal brushing in the teeth employing the right methods could be the next step in following an excellent dentist hygiene plan. It’s advised to brush the teeth two or 3 times a day but if you are keen on keeping to a very good dental hygiene system, it is often improved to brush immediately after each meal and immediately after taking any food in in between. An excellent brushing method will remove the foodstuff particles lodged in involving the teeth and inside natural pits and fissures on the chewing surfaces on the teeth. This also can eliminate the plaque that sticks to the teeth surfaces. Removing the meal particles will also prevent foul breath or halitosis. Halitosis, even so, may also be caused by various other factors such as a badly decayed tooth, eating specific varieties of meals like garlic and onions and infections from the tonsils, sinuses or throat. Utilizing dental floss to take away meals particles trapped in between the teeth is also a incredibly crucial part of a superb tooth hygiene system. Dentist floss can take away foodstuff particles lodged in between the teeth that at times even an excellent tooth brushing technique cannot accomplish. When you need assist with any on the strategies listed above, please contact us at any time as we’d be happy to suggest a local Portland Dentist, or a different one closer to you.
From time to time ill fitting, old and worn out dental appliances like dentures, orthodontic appliances and bridges could be the source of gum irritation. These dentist appliances should also be taken cared of in a similar method to normal teeth. All removable tooth appliances must be removed after each and every meal or snack and really should be cleaned with a special brush. Don’t let foodstuff particles accumulate in these appliances. Rinse the appliance with running drinking water when it can be impossible to clean it thoroughly having a brush to ensure that foods particles is usually eliminated. Soak the appliance overnight once or twice a week inside a solution of sodium hypochlorite. This alternative helps eliminate stains on the dental appliance.
The use of fluoride drinking water is one more crucial factor in sustaining great dental hygiene. Most U.S. water systems currently are already treated with fluoride. It has been observed that the use h2o treated with the appropriate amount of fluoride can basically help avoid dental caries. Fluoride is discovered to strengthen the enamel. Fluoride can also be topically applied to the teeth to children ages 13 and below. You will find also toothpastes and mouthwashes offered from the marketplace right now that contains fluoride.
The last step in maintaining very good oral hygiene may be the typical visits towards dentist. This need to begin around the age of three. A visit for the dentist after every single six months is suggested. Your dentist will have all the knowledge on how you are able to preserve good oral hygiene. He or she will be able to suggest to you any actions or procedures needed to keep and continue enjoying good dentist health.

To be a upright human being is to from a kind of openness to the in the seventh heaven, an skill to trust uncertain things beyond your own control, that can lead you to be shattered in very extreme circumstances pro which you were not to blame. That says something very impressive with the get of the righteous life: that it is based on a trust in the uncertain and on a willingness to be exposed; it’s based on being more like a plant than like a sparkler, something somewhat fragile, but whose acutely precise handsomeness is inseparable from that fragility.

hello,
I am new to all this editing digital video and have been tasked with making a mock commericial for work. My question is what software is best to use if i’m going to have a lot of video which I will need to cut down to about 120 seconds. I have access to Premiere would that be my best bet, I do not really know anyone who knows anything about though. Is there something easier?
I appreciate your help and if this is not the right forum for these sorts or questions could someone point me in the right direction.
Thank you so much!
